About the event
On our two day ultra skills workshop you will:
learn how to run efficiently and confidently on the trails
gain the skills and knowledge to plan your own trail adventures
understand how to fuel your runs and plan your training successfully
explore the Lake District with like-minded people.
We start our days in a friendly local café with fantastic food – feel free to come for coffee and your breakfast! Over a relaxed cuppa we will get to know one another and start to explore trail running – why, what, where and how? We will also begin to unpack navigation, helping you to understand how to read the map and how to plan and follow an enjoyable trail run.
We'll then head out to explore the local trails and gain practical skills – ascending, descending and moving smoothly over technical (rocky or uneven) ground. Although we can’t guarantee sunshine every single day, we will always find great views and introduce you to our fantastic local landscape, which is an amazing playground in every weather.
At the end of our run we’ll be back indoors for a change of clothes and maybe some cake or a late lunch to refuel. Now it’s time to think about safety, and kit. In an interactive session you will put together the ideal kit list to keep you safe, warm and well fed on your own adventures.
Day two follows the same format, with the morning session given over to an in-depth exploration of running fuel and training planning, giving you plenty of ideas to try out on your own. After our run we’ll finish by showing you how to understand mountain weather and equip yourself to be safe and comfortable in any conditions.
What experience do I need?
To enjoy our ultra skills workshop we ask that you can already run 10k, at any pace. We really mean that – there is no minimum pace. Our trail runs will be a little longer than 10k, but there will be plenty of walking, stopping to admire the views, snacking and technique practice; we will help you to complete the distance. We always move at a pace which is comfortable for everyone in the group.  We also suggest that you already have a little experience of trail running, e.g. you have completed a trail race or two. However, road runners who are very comfortable at the 10k distance will be absolutely fine too.
Is accommodation included?
Our ultra skills workshops are non-residential, giving you the freedom to choose your own accommodation and meals, and to relax with friends and family, or just wind down in the evenings. We are always happy to advise and give suggestions on accommodation and places to eat; just give us a shout!
