About the event
"the loveliest rock scenery, chased with silver waterfalls, that I ever set foot or heart upon" - John Ruskin
Come and enjoy a guided trail run through the stunning Langdale Valley, considered by many as a jewel in the Lakeland crown. From views of the craggy Langdale Pikes to tranquil woodland, remote-feeling fellsides, waterfalls, upland tarns and awe-inspiring caverns, Langdale delivers an ever-changing and ever-exciting backdrop.
You'll be part of a small, friendly and welcoming group, and we’ll move at a relaxed, sociable pace, with plenty of time to soak up views and appreciate this classic Lakeland landscape - as well as a chance to sample some of Cumbria's best cafe culture! Whether you’re new to trail running or just keen to explore, you are warmly welcome.
How far will we go, and what experience do I need?
We are likely to cover around 18-20k, with moderate elevation. Langdale has a lovely variety of terrain - much of the way will be on tracks and paths, with a few quiet lanes, and a couple of rocky, boggy or muddy sections. (Please note that routes are always finalised on the day subject to weather conditions and participants, and may change if we deem it necessary for safety).
To enjoy this guided run we ask that you can comfortably run for around 90 minutes to two hours, at any pace. We really mean that – there is no required pace. We walk up all the hills, stop for short breaks, and always move at a comfortable pace for the slowest people in the group on the day; on Into the Hills events you will never be left behind, or pressured to move faster than you feel comfortable. Into the Hills events were born for more 'sedately' paced runners, but speedier ones happy with a gentle pace are welcome too. You don't need any prior experience of trail running, and you're welcome to get in touch for a chat if you're keen to join but not certain yet whether this run is right for you.
What equipment do I need?
You will need a waterproof running jacket, a warm layer you are happy to run in, and a hat and gloves. You'll also need some water and a couple of snacks, so a bumbag or running vest to carry these in is helpful. Take a look at our 'trail running kit for beginners' page for our top kit picks, or email us if you have any questions.
Who will be leading the event, and how big is the group?
This guided run will be led by one of the Into the Hills team; you can find out more about us here. All our events have a maximum of six participants.
Is there parking/public transport?
The meeting point for this run is Sticklebarn Tavern, Great Langdale. Sticklebarn is adjacent to a National Trust car park, and across the road from a second car park (both pay and display). The 516 bus serves Great Langdale from Ambleside (please check times if you plan on using the bus, they are not frequent!)
