About the event

Enjoy a friendly guided trail run through lovely Kentmere, one of the Lake District’s quieter and more pastoral valleys. We’ll follow a mix of good tracks and gentle trails through rolling fields, alongside becks, and across open fellside; ultimately venturing right into the head of the valley to Kentmere village itself. You'll get your fill of wild mountain views, while staying at relatively low-level, and without any big climbs or descents. If we're lucky, we'll bump into the fell ponies!

You'll be part of a small, friendly and welcoming group, and we’ll move at a relaxed, sociable pace, with plenty of time to soak up views and appreciate this beautiful Lakeland landscape - as well as a chance to sample some of Cumbria's best cafe culture with our start/end location at renowned More Bakery. Whether you’re new to trail running or just keen to explore, you are warmly welcome.

How far will we go, and what experience do I need?

We are likely to cover around 20-22k, with moderate elevation. Kentmere has a lovely variety of terrain - much of the way will be on tracks and paths, with a few quiet lanes to start and end the day, and a stretch on more open (potentially a bit soggy!) fellside. (Please note that routes are always finalised on the day subject to weather conditions and participants, and may change if we deem it necessary for safety).

To enjoy this guided run we ask that you can comfortably run for around 90 minutes to two hours, at any pace. We really mean that – there is no required pace. We walk up all the hills, stop for short breaks, and always move at a comfortable pace for the slowest people in the group on the day; on Into the Hills events you will never be left behind, or pressured to move faster than you feel comfortable. Into the Hills events were born for more 'sedately' paced runners, but speedier ones happy with a gentle pace are welcome too. You don't need any prior experience of trail running, and you're welcome to get in touch for a chat if you're keen to join but not certain yet whether this run is right for you.

What equipment do I need?

You will need a waterproof running jacket, a warm layer you are happy to run in, and a hat and gloves. You'll also need some water and a couple of snacks, so a bumbag or running vest to carry these in is helpful. Take a look at our 'trail running kit for beginners' page for our top kit picks, or email us if you have any questions.

Who will be leading the event, and how big is the group?

This guided run will be led by one of the Into the Hills team; you can find out more about us here. All our events have a maximum of six participants.

Is there parking/public transport?

The meeting point for this run is More Bakery, Staveley. The bakery is part of Staveley Mill Yard, which has a pay and display car park. The 555 bus serves Staveley.
