About the event
Discover the often-overlooked beauty of the Glenderaterra valley on a guided trail run through one of the Lake District’s quieter corners. Quickly leaving the busyness of Keswick, we'll follow flowing paths beneath the broad slopes of Skiddaw into a valley that feels wonderfully wild yet welcoming. Weave through ancient woodland, open fellside and mossy gullies with waterfalls aplenty - all with expansive views across the fells. The sense of space and solitude makes this valley special.
You'll be part of a small, friendly and welcoming group, and we’ll move at a relaxed, sociable pace, with plenty of time to enjoy the big mountain views and peaceful scenery - as well the possibility of a popular local ice cream van! Whether you’re new to trail running or just keen to explore, you are warmly welcome.
How far will we go, and what experience do I need?
We are likely to cover around 18-20k, with moderate elevation. A lot of the route will be on tracks and paths; there are a couple of grassy fields, and one short rocky section which can be easily walked. (Please note that routes are always finalised on the day subject to weather conditions and participants, and may change if we deem it necessary for safety).
To enjoy this guided run we ask that you can comfortably run for around 90 minutes to two hours, at any pace. We really mean that – there is no required pace. We walk up all the hills, stop for short breaks, and always move at a comfortable pace for the slowest people in the group on the day; on Into the Hills events you will never be left behind, or pressured to move faster than you feel comfortable. Into the Hills events were born for more 'sedately' paced runners, but speedier ones happy with a gentle pace are welcome too. You don't need any prior experience of trail running, and you're welcome to get in touch for a chat if you're keen to join but not certain yet whether this run is right for you.
What equipment do I need?
You will need a waterproof running jacket, a warm layer you are happy to run in, and a hat and gloves. You'll also need some water and a couple of snacks, so a bumbag or running vest to carry these in is helpful. Take a look at our 'trail running kit for beginners' page for our top kit picks, or email us if you have any questions.
Who will be leading the event, and how big is the group?
This guided run will be led by one of the Into the Hills team; you can find out more about us here. All our events have a maximum of six participants.
Is there parking/public transport?
The meeting point for this run is the Moot Hall, Keswick (in the Market Square). Keswick has many pay and display car parks, and is served by the 555 and X4/5 bus routes.
